A music video I submitted for a contest at Genero.tv for a David Lynch song. The main concept was to take the devil (ie. the serpent) and make him a depressed and sympathetic character. It's understood that the devil is inevitably bad, so I thought it would be interesting if he wanted to have a good day for a change. I took the idea of the serpent and translated into video game terms, so he resembles the snake from the retro video game 'nibbles'. He continues with his daily routine of doing drugs and murdering people, while at the same time daydreams about meeting the love of his life.
For some reason, I thought it would be hilarious to have the inhabitants of Hell all be dressed in S&M leather gear. The whole video is pretty damn weird, I don't know if half of what I was intending really comes across.
There's an interesting sound effect that begins the song, and I kept associating it with a TV that splits open. I also think I was very much into the work of David O'Reilly, so with the video game slant, I took a lot from his style.
There were random machine gun sound effects in the middle of the song, so I immediately thought 'OK, that's the devil shooting people in hell.' I thought it was funny that they are just lined up like meat, and afterwards they just break into a weird disco dance. I'm pretty sure I'm the only one who finds this video hilarious.
For some reason a lot of things I do associate with disco balls and such. Perhaps I just love the tacky nature of disco, but at the same time it's such an infectious guilty pleasure.
